We accessed streets in Montmartre I'm certain weren't on the official route. We caught the sunset from Sacré-Cœur without touching the funicular queue, then timed our exit to reach the Eiffel Tower light show with ten minutes to spare. That precision didn't happen accidentally. It gets planned before anyone boards a flight.

Is the Moulin Rouge worth it?
Yes, and more than we expected. The show integrates acrobats, illusionists, a live orchestra, and elaborate set design. The dancing forms one element of a full theatrical production. Costumes come from major fashion houses. The champagne on arrival works. The men in the show keep their clothes on surprisingly, and makes the experience more broadly accessible than its reputation suggests. Yes, the women remain topless.
Must-Have’s for Moulin Rouge
Main floor seating: the back rows sit under a ceiling which feels cramped and cut off from the theatre’s energy.
Pre-arranged private driver: Pigalle runs loud and crowded after 11pm, and negotiating transport at the curb ends the evening on the wrong note. Both handled before clients leave home.
BEST FOR Adults, Couples, Groups. While the dancers remain mostly topless, this performs as a world-class theatrical show.

On a private tour, every stop reflects the client's preferences. The guide adjusts in real time. The budget flexes. For a couple or family of four, the per-person cost difference between shared and private typically runs under $50. The experience difference does not.
On our shared tour, we joined a small group of strangers. Fixed stops regardless of our preferences. Non-negotiable tasting budgets. We bought shared cruise tickets, walked to the dock, and watched packed boats pass carrying hundreds, looking at the same monuments visible from the bridge above us for free. We left. What makes a Paris shopping tour worth it?
The guide. We spent a day with a Parisian fashion journalist who has covered the industry for decades and knows every serious boutique, atelier, and perfumer in the city. This is not a tour of the Champs-Élysées chain stores. We covered independent jewelers, custom couture, luxury vintage, perfumers, and one-of-a-kind pieces all in the Marais, one of Paris's oldest and most architecturally intact neighborhoods. She tours all over the city and customizes to client preference. We chose Marais intentionally to understand that neighborhood.
The experience reframes your entire relationship with Paris fashion, not as retail, but as craft, history, and personal expression. Past clients have described it as the best day of the trip. I met this guide personally, spent a full day with her, and can say with certainty she delivers.

The most common Paris booking mistake: choosing the property before choosing the neighborhood. The wrong neighborhood undermines the right hotel. Travelers expecting charming side streets and local bistros won't find them on the Champs-Élysées regardless of the room.
For most first-time visitors: Saint-Germain-des-Prés (6th arrondissement)- walkable, central, close to the Seine, Musée d'Orsay, and Notre-Dame. For travelers who want a quieter, more residential Paris away from tourist density: 16th arrondissement near the Arc de Triomphe.
Saint James Paris: Our Favorite

The Saint James occupies a 19th-century château in the 16th arrondissement and operates as one of Paris's oldest private members' clubs, with hotel rooms available to the public. The food and wine program ranks among the strongest encountered all week. The service runs invisibly, and near perfectly.
While enjoying a classic omelette and Sancerre on arrival day in the oak paneled library bar, a prominent French politician dined for lunch. During a post-lunch tour, when a travel advisor captures video or photos of the interiors for reference, the sales director quietly asked not to take photos. That moment confirmed the property's defining characteristic: it attracts people who require discretion and delivers it without exception.
The 16th runs residential and quiet, an asset for the right traveler, a mismatch for someone expecting Saint-Germain's density. Planning around the traveler makes the difference between a good reservation and the right one.

A gem and classic Paris hotel in Saint-Germain with one critical caveat not published- a tiny elevator. The welcome- champagne, macarons, handwritten note- sets the right tone. The neighborhood delivers what most first-time Paris visitors envision. Rooms suit couples spending most of their time outside the hotel.
The caveat: the elevators run extremely small, a detail missing from a booking site. For clients with claustrophobia or mobility concerns, it changes the recommendation entirely. Book the suite if budget for noticeably more space.

Paris to London by Eurostar : Worth It With One Condition

Is the Eurostar worth it for a Paris-London trip? Yes and business class without hesitation. A proper meal, champagne, a quiet car, and no airport security. The journey runs more civilized than any short-haul flight between the two cities.
The condition: St. Pancras requires advance planning. The station has multiple exits with inconsistent signage. Our driver waited in the parking area, but we took a wrong turn exiting on the exact opposite side. We found him eventually, but the friction was entirely avoidable.
BEST FOR Any client combining Paris and London. Business class transforms a transfer into part of the experience.
