Client Spotlight: Montréal & Québec City Family Road Trip
Well Placed Travel planned a five-night Canadian summer getaway for a family of four, providing the perfect mix of easy adventure and relaxation.
Most of the Sheff family at the Jardin Botanique de Montreal
The Sheff’s gave a clear wish list: a walkable destination, great hotels with suite or connecting rooms, a pool for downtime, and plenty of casual outdoor fun. Since accessibility is key for their son, we focused on destinations with smooth pathways, wheelchair-accessible activities, and a boat experience that everyone could enjoy together. No intense adventure sports or uneven trails here- just sunshine, sightseeing, and a location that makes exploring simple and stress-free.
montreal
In Montréal, a centrally located hotel made sightseeing simple. They loved Old Montréal for its restaurants, history, and walkable streets, and called the Botanic Garden “top notch.” An accessibility tip: take an Uber partway up Mount Royal to skip the stairs and still catch the views. Daily breakfast was a highlight, especially the chocolate-almond croissant (“Why have I never had this in my life?” asked mom) and fresh fruit.
quebec city
After a three-hour drive, plus a stop in picturesque Trois-Rivières, they arrived in Québec City, where their castle-like hotel offered views of the river, boardwalk and Old Town from the room, visibility of the fireworks at night and a great pool. “Fairmont Chateau Frontenac is an amazing historic hotel. The pool was so warm and is a gorgeous art deco style at the top of the hotel,” said Mom.
A scenic boat cruise along impressive shores and waterfalls gave the perfect break from walking. Exploring Petit-Champlain by funicular felt straight out of France.
Let’s hear from mrs. sheff about their Canadian summer trip
What was it like working with Well Placed Travel?
“The experience was pretty seamless and exceeded my expectations. We were very happy with the hotels chosen and the itinerary suggestions helped us cut down on our research. I felt like we had the itinerary suggestions to work from which helped us to fit in a lot while making sure we got enough downtime.”
why this location?
“I have travelled extensively and, yet had never made it just a few hours north to Canada. We wanted to visit this vibrant international multilingual metropolitan city in Montreal that was driving distance from us and see the history in Quebec.”
What were the kids' favorite experiences?
“Walking through Old Quebec, riding the funicular, croissants at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth hotel, chocolate dipped cones at Chocolats Favoris and the pool at Fairmont Chateau Frontenac.”
What were mom and dad’s favorite experiences?
“The Jardin Botanique de Montreal was amazing. We could have spent two days there or more! We loved everything about Old Quebec and simply enjoyed walking around and taking it in.”
What did you learn that may inspire others to visit?
“Everyone speaks English and was perfectly happy to engage with us in English once they heard our pathetic attempts at French.”
Any inspiring next trip ideas?
“August was a beautiful time to visit Montreal and Quebec. I would love to go back to Canada to the Maritimes and PEI for another summer vacation.”
Canada proved to be the perfect blend of charm, history, and accessibility for this family.
