T+L missed these Latin American travel Gems
Travel + Leisure published its Hotels Issue in May, and I have to say I’m disappointed. The 500 Best Hotels list presents “the highest scoring hotels from our World’s Best Awards Survey,” meaning readers submitted these results. The list is good, but it’s not great.
After recently attending a Latin American travel conference, I realize how much fantastic hospitality in that region particularly didn’t make the list. Those that did are world-renowned luxury brands known for their consistency. But I find myself rooting for the underdogs—small, family-run operators without massive budgets or marketing teams. Many started as family businesses and still operate with that personal touch.
While the Travel + Leisure list disappointed me, it highlights the opportunity to showcase some incredible, lesser-known travel partners. I hope to inspire others to step outside the familiar and try something new.
Here are some top operators in Latin America offering unforgettable experiences. I’ve met their teams, stayed at some, look forward to visiting others, and most importantly, recommend them to my clients. Reach out to learn more!
