Top Ten Travel Questions About Morocco, Answered

Is Morocco safe for travelers?

Well Placed Travel always felt safe. When you book travel through us, you’ll be paired with expert drivers and guides to accompany you. They provide comfort and guidance in every location. For example, our guides recommend avoiding medinas at night, as they can be confusing and poorly lit. If you have a dinner reservation inside a medina, we coordinate with your guide and hotel to escort you to and from your table.

What experiences make Morocco truly unique?

  • Desert camping under the stars

  • Traditional hammams

  • Camel trekking or 4x4 excursions in the desert

  • Staying in charming riads, with ornate courtyards, romantic rooms, private roof decks and pools overlooking the medinas

  • Hot air balloon rides over the Atlas Mountains

  • Berber/Imazighen cultural experiences: bread baking, calligraphy, tattoo art, argan oil production, leather workshops, mosaic tile making, and carpet weaving

  • Jewish heritage tours

  • Private dinner at Royal Stables where Madonna celebrated her 60th birthday

  • Exclusive access to Yves Saint Laurent house

  • Shopping for exceptional handmade goods

What is the food like?

Food in Morocco is fresh, flavorful, and safe when approached wisely. Bottled water is recommended for drinking, though many travelers brush their teeth with tap water without issue. Avoid street food if you prefer to be cautious. Must-try experiences include:

  • Moroccan wine, a delightful alternative to European selections

  • Nous Nous, Moroccan espresso with milk

  • Mint tea, earthy and refreshing, served sweetened or unsweetened

  • Local pastries and desserts influenced by French colonial heritage, as good as any Parisian boulangerie

  • Fresh tagines, couscous, salads, olives, and spreads showcase the richness of Moroccan cuisine.

What’s the etiquette in markets and with locals?

  • Mint tea is often offered—graciously accept it.

  • At some restaurants or food related experiences, a host may ask to wash your hands.  Place your hands under the kettle and over the dish, allowing the water to cover your hands.

  • Bargaining is part of the culture. Prices start high, so expect to haggle. If you’re uncomfortable, your guide can assist.

Will language be a barrier?

Arabic and French are widely spoken, but your guides, drivers, and activity leaders speak English. Most hotel staff also speak English, so communication is smooth throughout your trip.

When is the best time to go?

  • You can visit any time of year.

  • Spring (March–May) and fall (September–November) are ideal for most travelers, with mild temperatures and sunny skies.

  • Summer can be hot, especially inland and in the desert.  Think Texas or inland southern California temps in summer.

  • August is a hot month, but low season so rates are lower at this time which may appeal to travelers.

  • Winter offers cooler conditions in the mountains and desert nights.

  • Well Placed Travel can tailor your itinerary to the season and your preferences.

What should I wear?

You can wear whatever you like. It’s wise to carry a shawl or cover-up for mosques and sacred spaces. Observing local norms, women tend to dress modestly, and men usually avoid shorts, which helps you blend in respectfully.

How do I get around?

The easiest way to explore Morocco is with a private driver and guide arranged by Well Placed Travel. Your driver delivers you everywhere and waits while you explore. Your guide ensures you see exactly what you want, without the stress of navigating unfamiliar roads or driving behaviors. It’s seamless, comfortable, and stress-free.

Do I need a visa?

As of September 2025, Americans do not need a visa to enter Morocco.

  • Exquisite resorts and riads in any location with epic pools and amenities

  • Marrakech for its medinas, markets, and riads
